Indeed. What can I say? About what are you talking about Mr McD? I hear you all enquire inquisitively. About the idiot/s at Sony who grade the genre of music for iPods. The other day I was whiling away the hours (after doing my exercises of going up and down the stairs 14 times) importing music onto my Christmas present. I found it rather amusing / frustrating to find out that half of my BLUES music is actually POP music. And some very well known ROCK music is classed as WORLD / ALTERNATE. A classic example, Savoy Brown Blues Band was classed under pop. Somehow I don’t think Kim Simmons would really appreciate the title. Bo Diddley also came under this genre of pop. Methinks he would be rolling in his grave. Enough already. Maybe I am being a wee tad too fussy about it all. Knowing me as I do that is probably the reason, but do they not know this at Sony?
My biggest problem with putting music onto the iPod is in what order / and what albums do I put my Rolling Stones on. I have some recordings that only ever came out on vinyl and I don’t think I can put them on (unless of course someone knows of a way) My other problem is my Frank Zappa collection. Do I put it on or leave him off for eclective listening only? Wait and see.
During the day I find myself at a loose end. After everyone has gone out to work it is just me and the dogs. I get up and have my brekky, after getting dressed of course, and then start into my light housework duties. One of the first things I do is tidy the kitchen, I cannot work in a messy kitchen. Then I fill up the log basket and the coal scuttle. This involves a couple of trips outside. I then clean out the previous days ashes from the fire and set a new fire. With my expert skills at lighting fires I soon have a nice blazing fire going. (I used to do this for my Mother when I was a wee lad in the days before central heating, hence the ‘expert’) After that I can then sit down and switch on my laptop and see if anyone wants me. E mail / Facebook / Blog etc. Some days I get a very pleasant surprise. There is something there on all forms of media for me. Other days there is diddley squat. I do have one friend who lives in London and he keeps me amused with the the e mails he sends me. (some of them should really be censored completely)(but they are funny)
Today you may have noticed, I am talking the biggest load of gack in the history of this blog. Reasons being that I haven’t really been out anywhere to do anything, apart from going to hospital and going for a coffee with my wife. Maybe next time round there will be something of more interesting content for you to get to grips with.
As always, keep the comments coming and stop a poor man going stir crazy

am i stupid or what? No, don't answer that one. I went to the hospital today for an appointment at out patients. Guess what? The appointment was for next week! They still wouldn't see me. They mustn't have known who I was. Imagine that! Indeed Avid, i tend to agree with you. Maybe the others are not responding due to the crappy blog above. After all, even I can have a bad week. Thought I would check in ... just finished 2 episodes of EASTENDERS. It is the only 'soap opera' I watch. I'm sure you guys will think I'm nuts for watching that dribble but I'm hooked. We are 5 years behind here in the states. So McDuff...I'd be curious if your wife watches it or...if she passes on that one. I've been watching since 1987. It's late...night for now. Oh and...I do hope you are feeling better.

Hi Fan. Yes, my wife does watch it, but I don't know why. I can remember the first episode and I watched it for a while because of Den and Nick Cotton. After they were written out I stopped watching. i think I have better things to watch, like CSI annd CSI Miami. Can't get into CSI New York though for some reason. Doing my exercises and keeping well thanks for asking

Glad to hear that you are doing your exercises. I know that I should be doing exercises and/or walking. Always mean to and before I know it there goes another day. Last Sunday our Church celebrated its 117th birthday, I know that is nothing compared to the Abbey and others but in Calif. it is special. McDuff I have two dr. appointments tomorrow and one next week, hope I don't get them mixed up. Cheerio & God Bless all.

No No no Mickmak. You have it all wrong. I only watched it when Dirty Den & Nick Cotton were on it. After that I gave up. Dr Who & Merlin are my fave but CSI comes out tops. I have been known to cry if I miss an episode (not really but you know what I mean) Irene, i think from memory the Abbey is 645 years old. Don't quote me on that though.

EASTENDERS - It's an acquired taste. I'm not a soap fan but it is so unlike ours..characters aren't all beautiful with gorgeous set of teeth etc. They chug down beer, smoke cigarettes, get in steet brawls...it's like 'the hood' toned down. We don't get enough British TV here. I have to rely on PBS 'cause I cancelled cable. They run a couple of old comedies ...keeping up appearances for one. Fawlty Towers...couple of others. Wish we had more.

McD I just caught up your previous blogs. I see that you have been keeping the NHS quite busy since the Christmas holidays. You appear to be a man who has no limitations so telling you to take it easy probably isn't an option for you. I would though like to extend my wishes for your complete recovery. Now that you have time on your hands may I suggest you check out this Satirical newspaper written here in the States. The web address is www.theonion.com the articles are fictitious and totally "tongue-in-cheek" there is an article today that pertains to Our Generation give or take a few years, the head line is Alzheimers Disease Causing Baby Boomers to Misremember the 60's. I am sure it will amuse you. Mickmak I haven't eaten red meat in years until Sunday when at a friend's house for dinner and she served Australian lamb. I have to admit it was delicious. Now I have to erase the picture of Mary (not your lovely Mary) the fabled Mary leading her poor little lambs to the slaughter house from my eyeballs so I can let go of the guilt. Hello Irene, I can't tell you how I wish I was going to be in Calif this weekend, as there is nothing more annoying than getting around New York City after a snow storm, and it seems we can expect at least a foot if not more. Sorry McD I know I took up a lot of space.

Off to Sydney in the morning, we are having a week researching at the NSW archives, local and family history on Marys side. I am meeting a friend who is down from Ireland for a wedding next week, we might manage a pint or two at the Rocks, part of old Sydney on the harbour. Ann, I understand your problem, the same thing happens to me when I eat escargot(the idea of it all). Just back from a 30km bike ride and a bit of breakfast at the golf club, a wee bit numb somewhere. Our club name is 'The Num Nutz', feel free to edit!! if this is a bit insensitive McD.

Irish Bacon, my achillies heel. The bacon here is pathetic and stringy and easy to resist. Now put a rasher of sizzling Irish back bacon in front of me and I'm temporarily a carnivore again. This talk of bacon brings back fond recollections of going to the butcher on Abbey St. on Saturdays (I believe it was Davy Roulstons but could be wrong) to get the bacon and sausages for Sunday breakfast. Then after breakfast we would take a dander down the street to the Queens Parade and sit on the sea wall and watch the world go by. Not a bad childhood, how blessed we all were to have spent our formative years living in Bangor.

Avid Reader what was the chemist shop called and where on Main St. and what was "Scotty's" father's name? By the way, McDuff, you mentioned the street you live on, I had a very good friend that also lived there, however the last couple of trips I couldn't find his name in the phone book, so I don't know where he is now. We have just come home from Hemet (by car) we were there to celebrate my cousin's 90th birthday, thank God. Last night & this morn. it rained, rained, rained and rained. Northeast of Hollywood, a lot of homes have had severe damage, a lot of mud as well, due to the fact this past fall there were terrible fires in that area. Talk about food, our family loves the soda and potato bread, but we just can't seem to make it like they do in N.I.

Aye there was a book on sale in the early 90s about Bangor. It mentioned local characters and showed photos of buildings being constructed in the 1900s. The name 'Doohan'was mentioned in connection with Scotty from Star Trek. I think the shop was in Lower Main St about halfway down on the right as you head towards the seafront.

Anorak Thanks for the info, when you say to the left of Trinity are you looking at the church or looking out from the church. Years ago, I think that next door there was a good restaurant called Tanya's, when my daughter was young that was her favorite. On the other side of the church closest to the seashore, I think that was a chemist shop (maybe I am wrong) but a Dr. Gray had his podiatrist office in the back. Also, there was another chemist on that side of the street, Balmers, the senior was my grandparents best man.

We went to Tanya's when we were on our trips to N.I. in 1977 or 79. Beautiful day here today more rain expected tomorrow, so sorry for the folk that have lost houses and cars some of the homes inside had mud at least 3 ft. high. Right now my husband is outside planting flower plants. I love a beautiful garden, but I always manage to kill the plants. Love the gardens in Bangor.

Off to Canberra at 4.30am for a farmers rally, we are getting a bit ticked off with being told what to do with our land. Maybe a march on Sony if I don,t get arrested, Bo Diddley pop music, what the!! although he was popular with us.
